Alcohol Education Program

EDUCATION

A three hour alcohol class is required.  There are two programs in Athens County that have been approved by the Court.  The first is the Substance Abuse Assessment for Municipal Court Offenders (SAAMCO) offered by Health Recovery Services.  The second, held by Flores and Associates, is the Court Alcohol Substance Education Program (CASEP).  The CASEP class is also available in Akron on some weekends at a higher cost.  Check your diversion package for that information or call Flores and Associates directly.  The fees necessary to attend the alcohol counseling are separate from any costs assessed by the Court.

The class may be taken in your hometown.  It is necessary, however, that any class be pre-approved by the diversion officer before you enroll.  Please call Mrs. Norwood to discuss this with her before committing yourself.

Please be aware that these kinds of classes are kept small and fill up quickly.  You don't have to take the class right away, but do enrol in one right away.  The single biggest reason that people fail the program is they postpone finding a class.  This is not accepted as an excuse.
